AICAR (Acadesine, AICA riboside) is an adenosine analog and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activator, supplied as a sealed, lyophilized research compound in 50 mg × 10 vials, at a stated purity of ≥99%.
Mechanism
AICAR enters the adenosine nucleotide pool and is phosphorylated to ZMP, an AMP mimetic that allosterically activates AMPK. In cell and exercise-model studies it is used to probe AMPK-dependent glucose uptake, fatty-acid oxidation and mitochondrial biogenesis, and to benchmark metabolic and endurance pathways.
